Except for the 15,000 years from the first cities through the Middle Ages—during which we explored most of the world, established international trade, discovered Earth’s diameter, invented most of mathematics, built universities, libraries, national healthcare, art, theatre, democracy, and industry.
And the capitalist period itself has only survived through periodic resets: debt jubilees, revolutions, and other interventions that kept it in check long enough to run another few cycles.
